Lambda Orionis was his head and Gamma, his right shoulder.
This month was called mrgashirsha after the fifth nakshatra ( around lambda orionis ).
It is located approximately 1, 300 light-years away and sits on the right side of Orion's head, just north of the massive star Lambda Orionis.
Of the lesser stars, Meissa ( or Lambda Orionis ) forms Orion's head, whilst Hatsya ( or Iota Orionis ) forms the tip of Orion's sword.
The aligning of this name with the " Nakcatra " " ( lambda orionis ) ", gives rise to speculation that this name was given when the sun was near Orion at the time of vernal equinox, i . e . around 7000 years ago.
